Daniel Gervais (right) of Edmonton placed 1st in the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Competition held Saturday at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. The Edmonton fiddler received a trophy and $3500. Gervais also won the People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Calvin Vollrath.
Roy Warhurst (left) of Pincher Creek Alberta received The Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Association Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition and appreciation of his outstanding contribution to Old Time Fiddling.
Greg Henry of Corunna, Ontario placed second in the competition, third place was James Steele of Saskatoon, and in fourth place was Ainsley Porchak of Woodstock, Ontario.
The Ward Allen Memorial Trophy – Best Old Time Waltz – sponsored by Ann Allen – was presented by Randy Foster to Janelle Melanson of Moncton, NB.

The Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Competition took place in Morinville Aug. 27, the first time the annual competition has been in Alberta. This year’s event drew 34 competitors from across the country. About 650 fiddle fans came out for Saturday’s event. The weekend also included a dance and show Friday night and a fiddle jam Sunday.
